Spring Trip Part One
It’s stupid that I haven’t been updating my blog, considering the amount of cool stuff I’ve seen/done in the last month. But sometimes it’s a bit overwhelming just to put it all down, not to mention making it all semi-entertaining.
First, the bad news: my on-again, off-again back problems came back to bite me in the ass, literally. I’m now walking with a decidedly unsexy limp and generally in a lot of pain. And the other bad news is that a half-case of wine that pal Jamie tried to ship to me recently was refused due to stupid, stupid Washington state restrictions.
Could be worse, right?
The good news is that I’ve had a fucking blast over the past few weeks. And they sell Advil with codeine over the counter in the UK. And I’m home and seeing a specialist here in Seattle and hoping to finally make some progress on this back bullshit.
So yeah, after being “home” in Seattle for about a week after Coachella, I took off again.
First stop was “The Bay Area,” as they like to call it. With Nan off training to be a Special Agent, poor Jamie has been stuck all by his lonesome out in their fab house on the border of Berkeley/Oakland, so I flew down to kick it with my former college roomie.
Highlights included a trip out to the Russian River wine country (to pick up a case of wine we had purchased together a year before as a “future” at Barrel Tasting Weekend), kicking around his very cool hood, hitting a Sunset Magazine event to see the first-ever Glidehouse (I’ll be buying two of them) and spending a fun day and night with Pip and Taylor in Los Gatos. I think it’s safe to say that Jamie and I were the only ones with cocktails at Taylor’s softball game. Wow, those girls LOVE to steal bases! And this is fast-pitch softball, no underhand ho-humness for these girls. Sadly, Taylor’s team lost but they played well and had a much cooler cheering section.
SFMOMA is one of my all-time favorite museums and once again didn’t disappoint. Photography is a particularly strong area here, along with lots of installation pieces and even a whole wing devoted to cool design of the product/architecture sort. Always make the time and effort to hit this place.
A newer spot in SF that is also worth a visit is the Ferry Terminal Building, re-designed with the help of Jamie’s architecture firm along with several others. Finally, a cool and casual place to sit on the water, sip champagne and slurp up oysters. And there are plenty of other eating/drinking options as well.
Next stop, London….
